i've been thinking about going into the forest, isolating one cubic meter from there and making an inventory of everything that can be found inside that.

is that too bold an attempt? what equipment and/or information resources would i need?

Identifying insects is the challenge. That's why I've been looking for relevant info on them recently.

i'd like to get to smaller detail, microscopical stuff, etc.. that's why i'm thinking that one cubic meter might be too much..

start with 10x10cm area in case you want to go to miniscule details. analysing 100x100cm takes some time.

Are you going to dig into the ground, scrutinizing the soil?
